Government employees and workplace giving donors are not familiar with the name Concern Foundation, however since 1997 they do know us by our dba, Cancer Immunology Research Foundation.  Tour name was changed to this dba so that potential donors would know exactly what we do and who we fund.  Concern Foundation for cancer research/CANCER IMMUNOLOGY RESEARCH FOUNDATION (CIRF) has through our affiliation with Medical Research Charities has received support from the generosity of Federal, State, and corporate employees through their respective workplace giving campaigns.  Since we joined the federation we have raised over $1,500,000!  On behalf of all the cancer patients we are helping, we greatly appreciate the support of the many workplace giving donors who have selected our organization.

CIRF funds have proudly supported basic scientific research on the immune system and cancer since joining the workplace giving program in 1997.  This basic work is the foundation of the entire field. Exploring open-ended questions is a proven way to go beyond what we already know and find what we didn't know in advancing this highly promising new class of treatment. Because of this investment, cancer immunotherapy today is a highly active and exciting field, with unprecedented potential to deliver on the decades-long promise of discovering, developing, and delivering safe and effective treatments that make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients fighting the disease.

Our primary aim and continued focus is to fund cancer research scientists to more fully understand the fundamental principles of tumor immunology. To do this, our scientists explore the basic components of the immune system, seeking answers to questions like how the immune system recognizes cancer, how cancer evades immune attack, and how the anti-cancer attack is coordinated at the cellular, genetic, and molecular levels.
Guided by an international panel of the world's leading cancer researchers and cancer immunologists, we seek the best talent in the field, recruiting young scientists and focusing their skills and imagination on helping us achieve our mission to conquer all cancers through immunotherapy and basic laboratory science. Our decision more than 46 years ago to attract and support emerging scientific leaders has ensured a steady stream of expertise in tumor immunology. This, in turn, has directly led to many of the new immune-based cancer treatments that are now revolutionizing cancer patient care. Concern Foundation/CIRF provides essential funding to support the early stage of discovery within the laboratory of the most promising cancer immunotherapies for patients.

Since its inception, Concern Foundation/CIRF has invested millions of dollars to support research conducted by more than 750 scientists worldwide to understand the immune system and how it can be harnessed to conquer all cancers. This work support by you and Concern Foundation/CIRF has laid the foundation for nearly every major cancer immunotherapy breakthrough over the past half century.

Cancer immunotherapy—treatments that harness and enhance the innate powers of the immune system to fight cancer—represents the most promising new cancer treatment approach since the development of the first chemotherapies in the late 1940s.  From the preventive vaccine for cervical cancer to the first therapy ever proven to extend the lives of patients with metastatic melanoma, immunology has already led to major treatment breakthroughs for a number of cancers. Every cancer type is unique, though, and immunology and immunotherapy are impacting each cancer in different ways for any cancer patient, regardless of their cancer type.

Not all charities are equal. Before choosing to donate to an organization, it's wise to research first how your charitable investment will be spent. Concern Foundation/CIRF is committed to being outstanding stewards of the dollars invested in our mission and we are proud to have one of the lowest overhead expense ratios among nonprofit organizations. Historically, between 90 and 95 cents of every dollar donated to Concern Foundation/CIRF goes to fund research.  When you give to Concern Foundation/CIRF you can be sure your charitable investment will be spent wisely and will make the most impact possible in our efforts to conquer cancer.

Each year, 14 million men, women, and children worldwide are diagnosed with some type of cancer. Continued research to find better, smarter, more effective treatments is urgently needed. There are many ways you can join Concern Foundation/CIRF in the fight against cancer; no effort is too small! Donate today because it is only with your help that we can continue to fund innovative research and bring breakthrough treatment options and “cures” to more cancer patients.

Together, we can and will conquer cancer and one day soon we can achieve our ultimate goal to be out of business.
